Scottish Barn Wedding
A roadtrip through Scotland will leave your mind imprinted with some of the most gorgeous lush green landscapes, roaming farm animals, and exotic mountain terrains.
To get the full Scottish Wedding experience I worked with Sarah Plant from Sarah’s Creative Occasions on an authentic barn wedding at Harelaw Farm just outside of Glasgow. Sarah has been planning weddings for a decade, and works with couples from all over the UK as well as couples planning destination weddings from abroad.
Caroline & Jonny’s wedding was one full of nonstop entertainment in a setting so naturally charming, just a few simple touches of decor completed their look. Harelaw Farm offers a genuine farm style wedding with a gorgeous outdoor area overlooking the Scottish countryside, an 18th century farmhouse, Milking byres, the original stable and large Hay Barn for receptions up to 250 guests.
The Hay Barn at Harelaw offers the perfect backdrop for a rustic style celebration with a warm, fun ambiance. Simplistic centerpieces with burlap runners, copper terrariums, greens & succulents created a combination of rustic elegance.
An extremely unique tradition in Scotland is for a Barn Owl to deliver the rings to the best man. I have seen plenty of ring dogs in my time, but never an owl! Such an innovative and spectacular way to deliver the rings but much safer to execute inside (I have been told there were a few instances the owl flew off with the rings outside)!
My favorite thing about Caroline & Jonny's wedding was that it truly matched their personalities and interests as a couple. From some humorous staged photos to an original seating plan based on English Futbol, the whole wedding reflected their unique love story. Each table even had a chosen “Captain”, adding a fun aspect for the guests.
The wedding was full of entertainment for the guests from start to finish, something crucial to planning a memorable occasion. Throughout the night there were games, a candy bar, a DIY Photobooth set-up and traditional Scottish dances fueled by a live band!
Halfway through the reception, Caroline chose to change into a more comfortable party outfit - a genius move on her part! I have seen way too many brides choose an uncomfortable dress that hindered their dancing. Caroline was able to rock her gorgeous wedding dress and then let loose in her bridal jumpsuit when the band kicked off after dinner!
Being a part of Caroline & Jonny's wedding was an incredible experience! The personal touches this couple incorporated combined with the gorgeous setting of Harelaw Farm made it a truly unforgettable day.
